South Korea's Hanwha invests in USA plant

Auto supplier Hanwha L&C Corp. is about to start its second expansion in less than two years

The company, which supplies automaker Hyundai Motor Co.’s Alabama plant and will supply Kia Motors Corp. when its new Georgia plant opens in 2010, will invest $11 million to add space, equipment and 25 employees in Alabama, it said in a news release.
The company molds glass mat thermoplastics and expanded polypropylene for bumpers. It opened in 2005 under the name Maxforma Plastics LLC. In 2008, it invested $14 million to add 42,000 square feet.
Based in Seoul, South Korea, Hanwha L&C will have invested a total of $43 million in Opelika once the newest expansion opens.
The addition will bring Hanwha’s plant up to 145,000 square feet. The company will use the space for additional production for the auto industry as well as packaging for electronics and the items for the building industry.
