Rhodia doses caster oil into organically sourced nylon
Rhodia is introducing a nylon 6/10 range of materials made in part from castor oil
According to the Lyon-based company, production of a ton of the material requires 20% less fossil fuels than a ton of a conventional resin, while providing equivalent property performance. The company said production of the material results in a significant reduction in environmental impact, including a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. "For Rhodia, sustainable development represents both a framework of stringent requirements and a vast array of opportunities. This new breakthrough provides additional evidence of this potential," said sustainable development director Jacques Kheliff. Applications for the material include flexible tubes for the power-assisted control systems market and fittings and adapters for the engine fuel systems.
